""A wine cellar associated with a wine bar ... for a sweet drunkenness of feelings! In its origins in the 80’s,« La cave d’à côté » share to the inhabitants of Lyon its passion for wines through the restaurant owners of the region.


Since 2006, the « Limited Company la Cave à Vins » transferred itself to be able to offer to all the amateurs of wines, a place fitted out in mind of wine grower's cellar with an atmosphere of a cosy lounge. In fact, our Show Room « La cave d’à côté », located in the center of Lyon’s peninsula, between the Saint-Nizier Church and Terreaux’s square (Classified site UNESCO), is the shop window of wines selected and stemming from our soil, and the reste of the world.

Choice of wines, considered "favorite"of the stars and the chefs, the liqueurs, the champagnes, the vintage wines, the wines of the New World… We are trying to introduce you to the discovery of a universe, a way of life, a tradition dear to our héritage !

Daily, we are developing our referencing of products. We want to represent all the producers of wines, no selective sorting is applied, any "discrimination" between youngs and vintage wines; our objective is to widen our range to answer as well as we can to all the amateurs of wines and flavours.



To be made, we set up:

  • From Monday till Wednesday evening, on booking, and function of a well defined schedule, « apéritifs » and sideboard, evenings tasting (paying), initiations and oenological courses into subjects.
  • Thursday and Friday evening, with the presence of a wine grower for the discovering of its vintage wines (free). A precise description of the wine (specification sheet), on its origins, its domain, its composition are presented on big screen, and this to make of the acclaimed product, the wine of the month of "La Cave d’à Côté" and the glass of the selection " Wine Bar d’à côté ".

We also stay in the listening of our customers for the organization of any tasting or oenological presentation of a wine stemming from their own selection.

With the advent of the industrial era and the emergence of the proletariat, inns settled down in city center, to feed the workers, and particulary the silk manufacturers. They also had to adapt themselves to the schedules of these new customers (7.30am / 10.30am). So the mâchon of Lyon had been invented, a robust morning snack, the mâchon of Lyon resuming the basic flats of the traditional meal of « Bouchons ».

« Bouchons » are typical restaurants of the gastronomy of Lyon where we are testing the famous « mâchons of Lyon ». Their history goes back up in the time of horses and diligences. Stopping-off place between the North and the South, the Alps and Central Mountain, Lyon was always a stage indispensable to the rest of the people and the animals. While the men made feast and slept in the inn, horses were "caressed" the paunch by means of a bale of straw. A wisp was hung on the signboard of these inns.

Wrong! The legend is beautiful, turns round and satisfied everybody. The truth is more complex: a cluster of pine cones (the badge of Bacchus) or a straw bouquet were effectively hung on the door of cabarets to indicate that we could drink it some wine. This straw bouquet also wears the name of « bouche » (in english « mouth »). The time making its work, the word deformed of "Bouche" to "Bouchon". Nothing to do, thus, with the bouchonnage of horses.

If the history was altered, the cooking always remained the same, the mâchon of Lyon. Today still it’s simple, flavourful and the big classics are always in the menu: the mâchon of Lyon: saltings(salt meats), boiled (beef stew in dialect of Lyon), salad of potato, brains of silk worker (composition on base of salty(steep) sprinkled with parsley white cheese), warm sausage wipes wine grower, andouillettes, tripes in the tomato, the quenelles, etc.

Lyon is a rare pearl, a moving, major city of Gauls, gastronomy, printing office, silk and painted walls. Regional capital without doubt of the Rhône-Alpes region, Genevan business to the doors of Provence, by way of wine hills, snowy summits and industrial ponds. The city possesses three qualities which can unquestionably make of her a capital: it is proud, it is beautiful, it is rebel. It is proud because all inhabitants of Lyon feels invested with a specificity of which they can boast: they are LYONNAIS! Beautiful because for thirty years, it lives a real revival. Talented people fell of the pink in cheeks in the facades of old Lyon, as to move closer to the city of the Mediterranean Sea. The vast sparkling places, which spray-paint the trunk, were magnificently discharged, honored by fountains. The city of the Renaissance wears well its name. Unesco did not make a mistake by registering 500 hectares of the city on the World heritage of the humanity. A record! Rebel, also, because Lyon never gives up. The city did not forget Jean Moulin or Klaus Barbie. Rebel even since "traboulesques" and claiming descents of silk workers. Rebel finally as Puppet theater which amuses the children buzz mocking at the middle-class persons and by challenging the police. In Lyon, it is necessary to go to bed late or to get up early. And especially, do not miss the magic hour when the Saône river sparkles, where facades shine, where frescoes liven up.
